COVID Infections Closing In On 1 Million Cases

According to data released by Johns Hopkins University, 884 people died in the United States as a result of COVID-19 yesterday, while a further 563 died in the UK and 864 fell to the disease in Spain.

“This has been a sad, sad day, 563 more cases - a record in a single day,” confirmed UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, according to The Daily Mail Our thoughts go out to the families of the victims all their friends.

“It’s crucial that people that do have the disease are able to be tested positive and take the necessary steps to isolate at home.”

At the time of writing, the US remains the most infected country by far, with more than 216,000 confirmed cases. Italy and Spain are the second and third worst affected countries, respectively and their total cases are now both in excess of 100,000.

In an effort to contain the use of black market drugs in the US, Donald Trump has announced a plan to undergo operations that will prevent illegal sales from abroad.

“Today the United States is launching enhanced counternarcotics operations in the Western Hemisphere to protect the American people from the deadly scourge of illegal narcotics,” Trump said, according to CNN.

Globally, more than 937,000 people have been confirmed to have contracted the virus, while more than 194,000 have recovered and more than 47,000 have died.

The head of the World Health Organisation, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, confirmed yesterday that COVID-19 has spread to almost every country and that he expects the number of cases to reach the million mark, while the death toll will eclipse 50,000 within the next few days.
