If you’re in the northern hemisphere, summer is on the way and it’s time for pool days and ice cream cones. This dairy free ice cream will have you returning for a second scoop, without any of the negative consequences of the dairy version! The best part? You can make it at home with only three ingredients! And it’s so good you won’t want to give it up in winter either.
In the store, dairy-free ice cream alternatives can cost an arm and a leg. Luckily, with this amazing recipe from Chocolate Covered Katie, you don’t have to go all the way to the store. Plus, you can tweak the flavours and the sweetness to suit your taste.
- 2 cups oat milk
- 1/2 cup nut butter
- 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
Get started by adding the nut butter, oat milk, and maple syrup to a bowl, and whisking well to combine. Although you can use any nut butter, because the oat milk doesn’t have much flavour on it’s own, pick one you really like!
If using any mix-ins, like instant coffee, fold them in once the first three ingredients come together.
Pour your now smooth mixture into a freezer-safe container and freeze overnight.
This should go without saying but once your oat milk ice cream is frozen, dig in!
To add some extra pizzazz, try adding some fruit slices, coconut flakes, chocolate chips or sprinkles!
If you have a high-speed blender like a Vitamix, after mixing your ingredients, pour into ice cube trays and freeze. Then you can blend the ice cubes until smooth and serve straight from the machine! This will give you a softer, creamier ice cream than if you’ve scooped it from its solid state in the freezer dish.

Chocolate: Add 1/4 cup cocoa powder to the recipe.
Banana: Sub half a cup of the oat milk for one ripe mashed banana.
Chocolate Fudge Swirl: Carefully melt 1/2 cup chocolate chips. Stir in 3 tbsp of canned coconut milk and mix until smooth. Let it cool before swirling into your oat milk ice cream.
Coffee: Add 2 tsp instant coffee to the recipe before freezing.
This oat milk ice cream is a tasty treat that’s much healthier than its generic counterpart. The inclusion of nut butter means you’re getting in some healthy fats instead of saturated fats from dairy cream, and it’s healthier for the planet too!
