Minerals and Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe has sacked the COO of his foundation due to the “reckless use” of his foundation’s name. The Gwede Mantashe Foundation has denied allegations that it received direct or indirect payments from the companies listed in the allegations stated in reports.

“The Foundation has not received direct or indirect payments from the companies listed in the report, and therefore irregular acts or payments have been made to individuals or groups that may be associated with the Foundation. If you have a claim that you have been, you must submit it at the door of that person and / or entity.

“The Foundation strongly opposes individuals associated with it who abuse their official brand, its materials, and their position within them, and act in ways that undermine their image and position, thereby defeating their purpose. In this sense, it was a mistake for Foundation Chief Operating Officer Caswell Mocoena to use the Foundation’s letterhead like him.”
