Attention: We’ve Found The Best Doughnuts In Cape Town

Grumpy & Runt Cape Town Doughnuts

Words cannot describe the particular brand of delight that I experienced when I stumbled upon Grumpy & Runt, a tiny – almost secret – deli and doughnut shop in Cape Town. It’s the kind of joy that one cannot keep to oneself, and is morally obligated to share. Thus, I feel compelled to tell you, dear reader, so that you too can experience the best doughnuts in cape Town.

The essentials:

Where: Dunkley Square, Cape Town

When:

Mondays – Closed

Tuesday – Friday: 8am – 3:30pm

Sat & Sun: 9am -2pm

IG: Grumpy & Runt

Now, I should start by saying that I don’t generally have a sweet tooth. I’d rather have a serving of fries than any kind of dessert, but this place may just have turned me into a believer.

Grumpy & Runt is a tiny, intimate deli with outdoor seating that serves a range of breakfasts and lunche-able deli foods. Its menu displays items like sandwiches, bagels, and subs – the things of dreams if you’re a carb-lover – for diners to tuck into before indulging in the main event – The massive, scrumptious doughnuts.

These come in unique (and frankly genius) flavours like carrot cake, malva pudding, spiced orange glaze, peaches and buttercream – even milktart-filled – which change frequently. Every one of them is guaranteed to knock your socks off, and the fact that new ones are keep being introduced creates the perfect reason to keep going back to treat yourself time and time again!

Unbelievably, but best of all, every item on the menu is vegan-friendly (a fact that I almost couldn’t believe after my first bite). Basically, Grumpy & Runt is a tasty but obnoxious display of “anything you can do I can do better” aimed at everyone who’s ever said they couldn’t be vegan because they’d feel deprived – and we’re here for it.

If you’re visiting Cape Town, or if you live here, get your butt over to this magical spot immediately, and have your life changed for the better. If you’ve been messing around with Krispy Kreme until now, you don’t even know what a doughnut is. Sure, you’ll have to run a few extra kilometres every week because they’re absolutely not diet-friendly, but in every other aspect they’re perfectly guilt-free.

Whether you’re a fully converted vegan or not, try the best doughnuts in Cape Town and send us a message on Instagram to thank us for telling you about this incredibly delicious secret when you do! 😉
