The Donald Trump campaign has cut ties with Sidney Powell, the lawyer who claimed that electronic voting systems had switched millions of ballots to favour Joe Biden in the presidential election.
The Trump campaign legal team issued a statement about the lawyer who made baseless claims about how votes were changed, distancing themselves from her, as reported by Wall Street Journal.
“Sidney Powell is practicing law on her own,” Trump campaign lawyers Rudy Giuliani and Jenna Ellis said in the statement. “She is not a member of the Trump Legal Team.”
This comes in the wake of several key losses in the courts, including a loss in the state of Pennsylvania, with the Trump team now running out of options to overturn the November 3 election results. And despite the attempts to distance themselves from the lawyer and her unsubstantiated claims about votes, a November 14 tweet, in which Trump referred to Powell as a member of his legal team has been uncovered.
“Rudy Giuliani, Joseph diGenova, Victoria Toensing, Sidney Powell, and Jenna Ellis, a truly great team, added to our other wonderful lawyers and representatives,” Trump said in the tweet. Following that Tweet, Powell herself issued a statement by email, saying that she’s determined to uncover and put an end to instances of voter fraud.
I agree with the statement today. I will represent #WeThePeople and seek the Truth. I intend to expose all the fraud and let the chips fall where they may,” she said. “We will not allow the foundations of this great Republic to be destroyed by abject fraud.”
