The Haunting Story of Netflix’s ‘Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich’

Netflix’s new docuseries, Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich is bone-chilling, blood-boiling, heartbreaking, eye-opening and captivating all at the same time.

For those of you who have had your head in the sand and haven’t seen the memes about Epstein’s controversial suicide, this was a despicable man who was on the verge of being found guilty for a massive pedophilia ring, having been found guilty of soliciting prostitution earlier in his life as well.

Jeffrey Epstein: Filthy Rich features the haunting tales of  the survivors of Epstein’s decades-long practice of exploiting vulnerable women (most of whom were minors) as part of a prostitution and pedophilia ring, which allegedly involved countless powerful people, including Prince Andrew, Bill Clinton, Harvey Weinstein, Kevin Spacey among others. It also addresses how Epstein used his power, his wealth and the dirt that he had on these powerful people to escape justice time and time again.

On a personal note, what was truly horrifying about the four-part docuseries is how frightened I am, as a man (and I suspect other men are) about the details of the despicable nature of sexual assault – about the patterns in the act, the obviousness of Epstein’s crimes and the blatant cover-ups by the US government, the blatant evil nature of not only the man himself, but the men (and women) that defended him.

It brings up not only feelings of hate, but nausea. Yet, the story is told in such a way that you can’t stop watching… you almost feel obliged to hear the stories of the survivors, merely because it is owed to them. Their suffering deserves attention and the spotlight needs to be shined on the people that associated themselves with the mega-rich, satanic figure that Epstein was.

In the end, of course, justice was not served in the Epstein case, but the final judicial procedure has set a precedent for the justice system’s obligation to listen to the stories of victims of survivors assault.

It’s sickening, but at the same time necessary, to watch Netflix’s coverage of the story. We need to popularise this story, for lack of a better word, to ensure that the dark practices can never be repeated again. I applaud Netflix for bringing this story to the attention of their wide audience and I implore my readers to watch. You have to.

You owe it to your wives, your female friends, your daughters – it’s incredibly hard to watch, but you never know what’s happening behind closed doors and exploring the finer details of sexual assault should serve as an education so that you may pick up patterns that you may have missed with the women in your own life.
