Winning an Oscar is one of the most prestigious, if not the most prestigious, accolades for filmmakers and actors alike, throughout history and 2020’s edition of the awards will prove no different. South Korean director, Bong Joon-ho, grabbed all the headlines when his feature film, Parasite, became the first non-English language film ever to claim the prize for Best Picture.

Parasite is a satirical film about two families in Seoul, one wealthy, the other living in poverty.

“I feel like I’ll wake up to find it’s all a dream. It all feels very surreal,” Bong said in his acceptance speech.

Parasite also won the awards for Best Original Screenplay and Best International Feature Film, while Bong walked away with the award for Best Director.

World War I drama, 1917, was also a big winner despite missing out on the Best Picture award, walking away with Best Cinematography, Best Sound Mixing and Best Visual Effects.

Brad Pitt and Laura Dern won Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress for their roles in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and Marriage Story, respectively. Joaquin Phoenix wasn’t the only winner with Joker either, as the film scooped the award for Best Original Score.

Pitt’s acceptance speech for the first Oscar of his distinguished career, was the notable moment of political conversation at the awards, as he discussed Donald Trump’s impeachment trial.

“They told me I only have 45 seconds up here, which is 45 seconds more than the Senate gave John Bolton this week,” he said. “I’m thinking maybe Quentin does a movie about it and in the end the adults do the right thing.”

The other notable winners of the night were Ford vs Ferrari (Best Film Editing), Rocketman (Best Original Song), Bombshell (Best Makeup And Hair), Jojo Rabbit (Best Adapted Screenplay), Toy Story 4 (Best Animated Feature) and American Factory (Best Documentary).
